Wiarframe

Wiarframe is an AR prototyping tool that empowers anyone to design, prototype and share interactive AR experiences in minutes. The idea is to democratize the ability to create AR content, so that anyone can jump in and build new experiences. Wiarframe doesn’t require any coding or 3D design tools, and is based on familiar design paradigms. The tool consists of two components: a web-based editor where users design their AR prototypes, and a mobile app where they can view and edit their creations simultaneously.

Scope

Jeremiah Alexander, the founder of Wiarframe, contacted us to work on his project in June 2018, putting us in charge of the app side aspect of his product while he led the web development. Jeremiah had been a client of ours in the past, and he needed a team he could trust to take over the project and work independently. The app worked but was missing a lot of features and suffered from long loading times and freezes.

Our Role

We took on full responsibility of the app side of the project, from development, iterative design and publishing. We provided real time synchronization with the web editor, optimized the loading of assets, and made sure the AR experiences worked the same way on both iOS and Android (which use different SDKs) while constantly adding new features and working on R&D.

Reception

With the initial proof of concept working, the project was accepted in the Comcast NBCUniversal Techstars program where we went into a rapid prototyping phase. At the end of this phase, we had brands like SYFY, media giants like Comcast and leading agencies like Huge, EON Reality and Nexus ready to use Wiarframe for their AR projects.

In under a year, with no marketing, the tool attracted almost 1,000 designers worldwide. We were selected to take part in the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield at Disrupt Berlin 2018 and a year later, we were once again selected to take part in the Startup Pitch Competition at the AWE conference in San Francisco where we revealed phase two of Wiarframe.
